At Least Try Being Liberal Again.
A goal of secular humanism, one that must be clearly understood, is to stir up conflicts where they do not, or at best slightly, exist. I use the word “secular” to designate a system that seeks to operate without God or higher traditional guidance, such as the principle of absolute truth. Secularism, in this sense, has manifested itself in a variety of social and governmental ideologies. An old Communist teaching instructed its adherents: if there are no social tensions, they must be fabricated. Class or racial tension must be maintained to cultivate the secular world of chaos. Thus, certain folks are busy creating conflict in America and around the globe. This outer turmoil simply reflects the inner essential turmoil and fundamental lack of peace that is at the heart of materialistic-humanism. Secular humanism is hell-bent on “discovering” and then exacerbating problems and conflicts. It consistently cries peace, while peace ever evades it. Why? Because it must appear to be the messiah, the savior of us all. One must simply reference the various Soviet Communist “saviors” in Eastern Europe (and elsewhere) in the 20th century to see how that sort of salvation works. The price was one hundred million people murdered and dead.
A similar spiritual exhaustion is manifesting itself in the “West” precisely because it’s abandoning its authentic spiritual fabric: Christianity. The 20th century was a time of accelerated de-Christianization, not to mention the 21st. The fruit of the promised “freedom” of secularism is clearly coming to fruition in our days.
A. Solzhenitsyn aptly comments, “The Western system in its present state of spiritual exhaustion does not look attractive.”
Yet, modernity seems to think that if the dosage is turned up, it will surely work a miracle. But more of a bad thing typically only makes things worse. Yet, modernity would rather convulse in its intensified stupor than wake up, or so it sometimes seems.
Another vital aspect of secular-humanism is that it must shut down every possible avenue of reasonable dialogue. This is accomplished by villainizing anyone who holds a view contrary to its own. Thus, labels such as “bigot,” “hater,” “racist,” “transphobic,” “phobic” this or that, “fundamentalist,” “far” this or “far” that, and so forth, are readily employed. The goal is to cultivate irrational and base emotional reactions in people. These then prevent them from reasoning in a more profound manner: a pattern based on the higher principles of immutable morals and spirituality. Or at bear minimum, it obstructs any basic and reasonable exchange. The purpose is to keep people swirling in a spiral of constant knee-jerk reactions to sound-bite information – react, react, react! But never stop to consider and contemplate. Thus, secularism dismantles any authentic and intellectual dialogue. And that’s equality at its finest.
